When to use this

Use this guide when you are new to GDPRChecker and want a clear picture of what the product does before you dive into technical steps. GDPRChecker combines a public compliance scanner with optional managed protection for sites you own. On the Free plan you can run scans against any URL and review findings without installing anything — Free does not include protected websites. When you upgrade to Pro or Growth, you unlock the dashboard setup wizard: connect and verify a site, install the runtime script, publish the consent banner, verify legal pages, run runtime verification, and go live. Growth also unlocks the Tracker Blocking setup step.

The product is designed for small teams and solo operators who need practical GDPR-oriented tooling rather than a full legal suite. Your dashboard is organized around a numbered setup path—Step 1 Connect Site, Step 2 Install Script, Step 3 Consent Banner, Step 4 Tracker Blocking, Step 5 Legal Pages, Step 6 Runtime Verification, and Step 7 Go Live—so you always know what to do next. Pro counts six required steps and treats Step 4 Tracker Blocking as optional; Growth can configure all seven. Help articles in the Getting Started category walk through each milestone in order, but you can return here whenever you need the big-picture map.

If you already have an account and a protected site, you may still use this article to explain GDPRChecker to a colleague or to decide whether you need Pro (one protected website) or Growth (up to 3 protected websites with tracker blocking and localization). Bookmark the Compliance Scanner help articles if your primary need is auditing third-party sites without managing your own runtime.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Create a GDPRChecker account with Google sign-in or email, then confirm you land on the dashboard home.
  2. Run a free public scan at /scanner to see how the scanner reports trackers, consent signals, and policy links—no install required.
  3. From the dashboard, review your current plan under Billing. Free includes the scanner only; Pro and Growth unlock managed sites.
  4. If you plan to protect your own website, upgrade to Pro (or Growth for multiple sites), then open Setup Step 1 and add your root domain.
  5. Complete the setup wizard in order for your plan: connect the site, install the runtime snippet, publish the consent banner, and verify legal pages on all paid plans; on Growth also configure tracker blocking; then run runtime verification and complete Step 7 · Go Live.
  6. Use Runtime Health and Protection views after go live to confirm heartbeats, blocking, and enforcement stay healthy over time.
  7. Explore Help Center categories—Privacy Setup, Compliance Scanner, Billing, and Account—for detailed instructions on each area.
  8. Share compliance reports from the scanner or dashboard when stakeholders need evidence of what was checked and when.

Expected result

After following this overview you should understand which GDPRChecker features apply to your plan and where to go next in the product. Free users can confidently run public scans and interpret high-level scores. Paid users can see how setup steps 1–7 connect and which dashboard areas map to each step.

You do not need to finish technical setup in one session. The dashboard remembers progress per site and locks later steps until prerequisites complete, which prevents half-configured protection from going live by accident. When you are ready for hands-on work, continue with Create your first site and Install the runtime script in this help category.

Troubleshooting

I only see the scanner, not Setup

Managed sites and the setup wizard require Pro or Growth. Free accounts retain full access to /scanner but cannot add verified domains or install the runtime. Upgrade from Billing or Pricing, complete checkout, then refresh the dashboard. If you recently paid, allow a minute for Stripe webhook sync; open Account billing to confirm your plan shows PRO or GROWTH.

Setup steps look locked

Steps unlock sequentially. Step 3 (Consent Banner) stays locked until Step 2 (Install Script) is complete—not merely when HTML contains the tag, but when the dashboard records install verification or a qualifying heartbeat. If Step 2 looks done but Step 3 is still locked, open Install the runtime script and Verify installation help articles, then load your homepage in a normal browser window so the snippet can ping GDPRChecker.

I am not sure which plan I need

Choose Pro if you operate one primary marketing site and need consent banner, legal page verification, runtime protection, heartbeat diagnostics, and billing dashboard access. Choose Growth if you manage multiple brands, need tracker blocking configuration, custom blocking rules, multi-language banners, configuration export, or up to 3 protected websites. You can start on Pro and upgrade later; see Change plan in Billing help.

FAQ

Do I need a paid plan to use GDPRChecker?
No. The public compliance scanner is available on Free. Paid plans are required only when you want to install runtime protection and manage consent on your own verified domain.
How long does full setup usually take?
Many teams finish in under an hour if they have CMS access for the script tag and existing policy URLs. Legal page verification and runtime checks may take longer if DNS, caching, or tag managers delay deployment.

GDPRChecker help articles provide product guidance and do not constitute legal advice. Use them for setup and troubleshooting, and consult qualified counsel for legal interpretation.

Need hands-on verification?

Use the compliance scanner or open your dashboard to finish setup and go live.
