Common setup questions

Quick answers about installation, consent verification, scanners, plans, and testing.

How do I install GDPRChecker?

Add your website in the dashboard, copy the site-specific runtime script from the install step, and place it on every page that should load consent and protection. Our Install the GDPRChecker runtime script help article walks through HTML, GTM, and CMS placement, then Verify installation confirms the dashboard sees the script.

How do I verify cookie consent before going live?

Publish your consent banner, open your site in a private window, and confirm non-essential tags stay blocked until you accept. Use Runtime verification and Go live in the dashboard to check heartbeat, banner state, and enforcement before you mark the site live.

Why do external cookie scanners still find cookies?

Third-party scanners use different rules, timing, and crawl depth than your live enforcement layer. They may report cookies that load after consent, tag-manager containers, or first-party storage that your banner still discloses. Compare findings with our External scanner results help article and re-test in a clean browser profile.

How does Google Consent Mode v2 work with GDPRChecker?

Consent Mode v2 sends analytics and ads storage signals to Google tags based on the categories a visitor chooses. On GDPRChecker, wire your banner categories to those signals and use tracker blocking on Growth when you need hard enforcement before consent. See Tracker blocking in Help and Google Consent Mode v2 Explained in Guides for setup and verification steps.

How do I fix trackers firing before consent?

Confirm the runtime script loads before marketing tags, publish an active banner, and on Growth configure tracker blocking rules for analytics and ads domains. Remove duplicate hard-coded tags outside GTM that bypass enforcement, then re-test in a fresh session.

What is the difference between Pro and Growth?

Pro includes one protected website with consent banner, runtime protection, and core setup steps. Growth adds up to three sites, advanced tracker blocking, localization, configuration summary, and consent replay verification. See Plan feature limits for the full comparison table, or read Pro plan and Growth plan for upgrade paths.

How do I reset consent for testing?

Clear site cookies and local storage for your domain, or use a private browser window. Trigger the banner again and walk through Accept, Reject, and Update preferences to confirm enforcement changes. Runtime verification helps confirm the dashboard sees fresh consent events after you republish settings.
