When to use this
Cancel when you no longer operate the protected site, migrate to another solution, or need to pause spend. Cancellation stops future renewals; Stripe may keep access until the current period ends depending on cancel_at_period_end settings in the portal.
Before canceling, export consent configuration on Growth, document policy URLs, and plan removal of the runtime script from your site templates so trackers are not left in an undefined state.
Free tier retains scanner access if you keep the account; managed features disable when subscription ends and entitlements revert.
Document for legal whether historical scan reports and consent configs remain stored after cancel—retention follows GDPRChecker data processing terms. If you must remove data, request deletion after export and cite regulatory basis in your internal ticket.
Teams switching to another CMP should still cancel to avoid double billing even if migration takes weeks—remove runtime script at cutover weekend, not at cancel click, to avoid an unprotected gap.
Finance should reconcile the final Stripe invoice against contract end dates; partial months may still produce line items after cancel-at-period-end depending on billing cycle anchors.
Step-by-step instructions
- Open Dashboard → Billing and launch the Stripe customer portal link.
- Locate active subscription for Pro or Growth.
- Choose Cancel plan or Cancel at period end per Stripe wording—read which date access ends.
- Confirm cancellation email from Stripe for records.
- Note the period end date on Account billing screen.
- Before access ends, export configs and run final compliance scans for documentation.
- Remove GDPRChecker script tag from production when protection should stop entirely.
- After period end, verify plan shows FREE and Setup is locked for managed actions.
- Delete account separately if you want data removal—see account settings help.
- Notify stakeholders that public scans after cancel will no longer reflect private runtime improvements you previously deployed.
- Archive Stripe cancellation confirmation PDF in vendor management folder.
- Update internal asset inventory to remove GDPRChecker from subprocessor lists if required by your privacy program.
Expected result
No further renewal charges. Paid features deactivate after entitlement sync at period end (or immediately if instant cancel). Sites may remain listed as archived references but runtime heartbeats cease without active subscription.
You can resubscribe later via /pricing without losing account history if retention policy keeps records.
Run one final public scan after script removal to demonstrate to leadership that third-party trackers behave as expected without GDPRChecker enforcement—some tags may resume firing and require alternate CMP or tag governance if compliance obligations continue.
Troubleshooting
Still charged after cancel
Check for duplicate subscriptions or add-on invoices. Stripe portal shows upcoming invoices. Dispute timing issues with receipt dates vs cancel request date.
Portal link missing
Billing dashboard requires Pro/Growth. If already canceled, use pricing to resubscribe or contact support for portal reissue.
Site still blocking after cancel
Cached script may run until removed from HTML. Remove tag; visitors clear over hours. Heartbeats stop when subscription inactive.
